PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project 1: DEFINING AND DOCUMENTING A PROJECT

In a group of 6, we are required to design and manage a simple construction project in a way that emphasizes Cost, Quality and Time with a measurable "success criteria". We are asked to pick a role and conduct the work scope of the selected role while having meeting on weekly basis. We are given a site within university compound and design a recreational station.

The objectives of the projects are as follows:

1. To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources

2. To appreciate the need for Project Management in a real project environment

3 To understand the basic stages of project management in the construction industry

4. To understand the basic roles of the different consultants in the construction industry

5. To understand the use of "Success Criteria" in evaluating a project

Project 2: DOCUMENTATION OF A MEDIUM-SIZED PROJECT

This is an individual component which requires us to document our own Architectural Design Project with the application of principles learned in Project 1. The project should be done in the point of view of a Project Manager with 5 main components in producing the report, such as Introduction, Design Suitability and Project Viability, Project Procurement and Resource Planning, Risk Analysis and Maintenance Strategy and Success Criteria, WBS and Gantt Chart.

The objectives of the project are as follows

1. To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources

2. To evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success.

3. To understand the means of evaluating and managing risks that can lead to success and failure in a project’s performance.
